About the author: KI Rajanarayanan

KI Rajanarayanan, also known as KiRa or Ki Ra, is one of the most celebrated Tamil writers of the 20th century. He was born in 1922 in Idaiseval village in Tamil Nadu, India. He grew up listening to stories from his grandmother and other elders in his community, which sparked his interest in folklore and oral tradition. He studied Tamil literature at Annamalai University and later worked as a teacher, journalist, editor, publisher, and researcher. He also participated in the Indian independence movement and was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence.


KI Rajanarayanan started his literary career in 1958 with the publication of his first short story, "Mayamaan". Since then, he has written over 30 books, including novels, short stories, essays, memoirs, and folktales. He is widely regarded as the pioneer of the "village novel" genre in Tamil literature, which depicts the realistic and authentic aspects of rural life and culture.
